The ChavÃn sandeel, or simply âEl Lanzónâ, is a monolith or sacred wanka, belonging to the ChavÃn culture of ancient Peru (around 1000 BC). It is sculpted in irregular granite, 4.54 m high, and remains in its original location, in a sector of an interior gallery of the Old Temple of ChavÃn, called âGalerÃa del Lanzónâ. It is called âLanzónâ because it has the shape of a gigantic projectile tip, whose ends are firmly embedded in the floor and ceiling of the gallery |
