There are multiple types of sushi including sashimi, nigiri, and maki. Sashimi is only the meat without other ingredients such as vegetables, seaweed, or rice. It is usually raw fish although occasionally it will be cooked and fish is not always used. Nigiri is similar to sashimi except the meat is placed on top of a chunk of rice. Common meats for nigiri include tuna, salmon, and shrimp. Maki is rolled sushi and is usually wrapped in seaweed and rice. Sometimes the rice is around the seaweed. A California roll is a common type of maki sushi. |
