Our major exhibition presents key moments from Abramovic career through sculpture, video, installation and performance.Works such as The Artist is Present will be strikingly re-staged through archive footage while others will be reperformed by the next generation of performance artists, trained in the Marina Abramovic method. Abramovic retrospective at the Royal Academy is relentless. Shockingly, it is the first retrospective to be given to a female artist in the institutionâs history. Then thereâs Abramovi? and her partner, Ulay, slapping each otherâs faces, screaming at one another and performing a dangerous balancing act with an archerâs bow and arrow. In other circumstances, the extreme games these two accomplices once played might have led to the courts, at the very least. |
