The Weighing House of the dutch town of Alkmaar dates back to approximately 1390 and was originally a Holy Spirit House, a guesthouse for the reception of poor travellers and sick people. In 1582, after the re-acquisition of the weighing right, it was rebuilt into the Weighing House. Every friday in summer during the traditional cheese market the cheese is weighed in this building. |
