The Old Melbourne jail was operational from 1842 until its closure in 1929. The gaol was the scene of 133 hangings including Australia’s most infamous citizen, the bushranger Ned Kelly. It was again used during WWII to house American AWL soldiers. This is the view of a modern Melbourne.
