| The Old Melbourne jail was operational from 1842 until its closure in 1929. The gaol was the scene of 133 hangings including Australiaââ¬â¢s most infamous citizen, the bushranger Ned Kelly. It was again used during WWII to house American AWL soldiers. This is the view of modern Melbourne from the jail courtyard. |
