Sun Yat sen University Zhuhai Campus is a national key comprehensive research university, known as the "pillar of the southern sky". [5] Sun Yat sen University was founded in 1924, originally named National Guangdong University. It was established by Sun Yat sen after integrating Guangdong Higher Normal School, Guangzhou Public Law University, and Guangdong Public Agricultural Specialized School. Later renamed as "National Sun Yat sen University" and "National First Sun Yat sen University". In 1935, a research institute was established. In October 2001, the original Sun Yat sen University and Sun Yat sen Medical University merged to form the new Sun Yat sen University.In September 1999, Sun Yat sen University collaborated with Zhuhai City to construct the Sun Yat sen University Zhuhai Campus. Zhuhai Campus is located in Tangjiawan, the Pearl River City, on the west bank of the Pearl River Estuary and the coast of the South China Sea. The campus is surrounded by mountains on three sides and faces the sea on one side, with a total area of 3.571 square kilometers.
