| The full name of Southern Ocean Laboratory is Southern Ocean Science and Engineering Guangdong Provincial Laboratory (Zhuhai). It was launched in November 2018 and adopts the "government owned, university managed" model. It is organized by the Zhuhai Municipal People's Government and led by Sun Yat sen University for construction and management. The laboratory is located in Tangjiawan, Zhuhai, backed by the Zhuhai campus of Sun Yat sen University. The main building covers an area of over 160000 square meters and has major facilities such as the "Zhuhai Cloud" intelligent unmanned scientific research mother ship (delivered in January 2023) and the "Sun Yat sen University" scientific research ship. |
