Summer view of famous Strecno Castle ruin sitting on massive rock formation located above the Varin village. This castle is a ruin of gothic castle near Zilina town in northern Slovakia. It is rightfully considered to be one of the most interesting castle ruins in Slovakia. The castle is archaeologically preserved and it is now opened for public as an open-air museum. Tourists can see many attractions there including indoor-museum in reconstructed part, various art exhibitions, festivals and much more. This castle ruin is also a popular location for filming historic movies. It is featured in some exterior scenes of the fantasy adventure movie Dragonheart (1996). Strecno Castle is declared as a national cultural monument and it is definitely worth a visit.
