It can be seen in the smal Santa Catarina park and viewpoint over the Tagus river and represents the Boa Esperança Cape in South Africa. The author is the sculptor Júlio Vaz Júnior and created it in 1925 carving a rock. The small human figure represents a sailor of Vasco da Gama crew in the sea route to Índia in 1498.
