A morning view of the Grand Canyon after a surprise spring snowfall. Because the interior of the Grand Canyon is hotter than the temperature at the canyon rim, the snowfall melts as it enters the canyon, leaving the only snow located high at the canyon rim. In the distance , the historic El Tovar Hotel can be seen on the snow-covered canyon edge. Opened in 1905, the El Tovar is considered the crown jewel of Historic National Park Lodges.
