| The monumental entrance hall of the Gallerie d'Italia in Naples periodically hosts a work of particular value, sourced from both the Intesa Sanpaolo art collections and important Italian and international museums as part of an exchange and collaboration agreement. The "David" sculpture comes from the Jago Museum, a laboratory museum within the Church of Sant'Aspreno ai Crociferi. As in other works, Jago draws on classical iconography and the tradition of the great masters, reinterpreting the myth of David and Goliath in a modern key to tell a different story, yet always full of courage and defiance. The iconography is identifiable by the woman's proud posture (which recalls the famous David by Michelangelo), the sling, and the stone (a symbol of Jago's latest masterpieces) ready to be launched. |
