Rutgers quarterback, McLane Carter, a graduate student transfer from Texas Tech, scans the defense and weighs his options as he prepares to pass. Rutgers fell behind visiting UMass 21-7 in a season-opening August, 30, 2019 football game at the SHI Stadium in Piscataway, New Jersey. The Rutgers Scarlet Knights rallied and went on to score 41 unanswered points. Rutgers celebrated in style the 150th anniversary of intercollegiate football by trouncing the Massachusetts Minutemen 48-21 in an NCAA Division 1 FBS matchup. For his part, McLane had a very productive night, completing 21 of 31 passes for 340 yards and two touchdowns, despite surrendering 3 interceptions. The game had a historic context because 150 years earlier, Rutgers beat Princeton 6-4 in the first inter-collegiate football game which was played in neighboring New Brunswick, NJ in 1869. To the present day, Rutgers is known as the `Birthplace of College Football.`
