The Via Labicana Augustus in the Ground Floor of the Roman National Museum Palazzo Massimo alle Terme in Rome, Italy. The sculpture shows the Roman emperor Augustus as Pontifex Maximus. The statue is dated as having been made after 12 BC. The ground floor displays a rich collection of portraits made between the Roman Republic 6th-1st centuries BC and late antiquity 3rd-6th centuries AD. Palazzo Massimo has one of the best archaeological collections in the world. Also known as the Palazzo Massimo alle Terme due to its proximity to the Baths of Diocletian, the museum building is a great palace built between 1883 and 1887.It houses the best-preserved Roman frescoes in the world.The National Museum of Rome was founded in 1889 and inaugurated in 1890. Today, the National Museum includes four different, smaller museums, Crypta Balbi, Palazzo Attemps, Palazzo Massimo alle Terme and Baths of Diocletian.
