Originally built in 1939 the 541 was one of twenty ever built of the Q Class steam locomotive designed by Richard Maunsell. It ended up in Barry Scrapyard in 1965, was bought in 1973 by a group of Gloucester enthusiasts and eventually ended up at the Bluebell Railway in 1978. It returned to steam in 1983 as the 30541, was withdrawn from service in 1992 for a complete overhaul. 23 years later in 2015, completely restored, it returned to operational duty on the preserved railway line.
