Pictured is a red granite sphinx of Thutmose III in front of the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities in Cairo, Egypt. The sphinx was found in Karnak Temple in 1861. A sphinx is a mythical creature with the head of a human and the body of a lion. The museum was built in 1901 to a design by French architect Marcel Dourgnon. In 2022, the museum is due to be superseded by the newer and larger Grand Egyptian Museum at Giza.
