Pictured is a red granite sphinx of Thutmose III in front of the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities in Cairo, with tourists pouring through the front door. The sphinx was found in the Karnak Temple in 1861. A sphinx is a mythical creature with the head of a human and the body of a lion. The museum was built in 1901 to a design by French architect Marcel Dourgnon. In 2022, the museum is due to be superseded by the newer and larger Grand Egyptian Museum at Giza.
