Aster pekinensis (Hance) F.H. Chen is a perennial herbaceous plant in the Asteraceae and Aster genera, with long spindle shaped straight roots. The stem is upright, reaching up to 90 centimeters in height, and the lower leaves wither during the flowering period The central leaves are numerous and dense, with leaves in the form of lanceolate, oblanceolate, or rectangular shapes. The tips are blunt or gradually pointed, often with small pointed tips, and the entire margin. The upper leaves are smaller and strip-shaped Underneath all leaves are gray green, and the inflorescence has a solitary branch end arranged in a sparse umbrella like pattern. The bracts are hemispherical in shape, with 3 layers of bracts arranged in a tile like pattern. The outer layer is nearly strip-shaped, while the inner layer is rectangular lanceolate. The upper part is simple and has short, coarse hairs and glandular spots. Tongue shaped flowers with hairy tubes The tongue is light purple, and the corolla of the tubular flower is hairy. The achene is oblong, light brown, flat, with light colored edges and ribs. The coronal hair is brownish, unequal in length, weak and easy to fall off. Flowers bloom from June to October and bear fruit from July to November.
