The name chosen by the Vallombrosan monks was from the Latin of the time: Badia a Cultusboni, or good worship, good culture, good agriculture and good harvest. In its archives, for the first time in history, the name Chianti appears in a document of the late twelfth century.
Today Badia a Coltibuono, with all its lands and activities, is a place that conveys the value and prestige of what was formed, transformed and preserved by mostly unknown men and women, in a series of generations through the ages. Gaiole in Chianti, Italy |
