| This monumental sculpture is first reported in 1523 in the court of the Velvedere together with the sculpture of the River Tiber once in the vatican collection but now in the Louvre Musuem. Both sculptures were found during excavation at Saint Mary above Minerva in Campo Marzio. They must have been part of the valuable series of statues which decorated the so-called Iseo-Campense a large sanctuary dedicated to the egyptian gods Isis and Serapis, created by the Emperor Domitian. |
