Meir Kahane takes a dramatic pause during a speech in Jerusalem on April 27, 1986. An immigrant from Brooklyn, Kahane was an orthodox rabbi and organizer of the controversial Jewish Defense League, JDL. He was a polarizing crime-fighter in Brooklyn`s orthodox Jewish community. He moved to Israel and founded the Kach Party which was eventually outlawed as an extremist and anti-democratic party because of its extremist views supporting expulsion of Arabs from Israel and the West Bank. The venue was Kahane`s so-called Museum of the Potential Holocaust. He was assassinated in Manhattan at age 58 in 1990.
