| Enisala fortress & x28;also known as Heracleea or Yeni-Sale& x29;, was built 700 years ago ans it is the only genovese fortress preserved on Romania& x27;s teritory. It had a military purpose in the Byzantine era and then, after the Otoman occupation, it was used by the turks as garrison. It was soon abandoned. 2 centuries ago the russian generals ordered that all the turkish garrisons to be destroyed. Only Enisala escaped, as it was not in use anymore. |
