| The Mycenae is an archeological site in Greece located southwest of Athens. It was a military stronghold. In the second millennium BC, Mycenae was one of the major centres of Greek civilization. The Lion Gate was the main entrance. It is named after the relief sculpture of two lionesses or lions in a heraldic pose that stands above the entrance. |
