Singer, songwriter, and actor Kris Kristofferson, then 40, performs at the Convention Hall in Asbury Park, New Jersey in 1975. Known for his brand of `outlaw` country music, Kristofferson, also a screen actor, was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2004, and earned a Lifetime Achievement Grammy. Before becoming a professional performer he excelled in academics at Pomona College in California and Oxford University in England, where he was a Rhodes Scholar, and earned a Masters Degree., He was a talented sportsman, excelling in rugby and boxing. In the military he was a skilled helicopter pilot. Among the most successful songs that he wrote are Me and Bobby McGee and Help Me Through the Night. Kristofferson died on Sept. 28, 2024, in Maui, at the age of 88.
