On Sunday, October 17, 2019, several ceremonies took place to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Metz by the 95th American division. In the afternoon the participants were in Saint Julien-les-Metz. GI veterans Anthony DUNO and C.O. Bauer were present with their families from America. Many high-ranking officers, U.S. General James ARCHER, Fabrice Herdé, mayor of Saint-Julien-lès-Metz, Nathalie Delcouderc-Juillard, American veterans attended the unveiling of the stele created by the local sculptor, Dany Mellinger. A very symbolic sculpture: the oak (symbol of Saint-Julien) which connects the coats of arms of the two municipalities marking the help of the Bortois and the recognition and friendship of the Saint-Juliennois. The whole is surmounted by a bald eagle, one of the symbols of the United States, and a dove which suggests the return of peace. Private collection of military mannequins.
