The current appearance of the monastery was formed only in the 16th century, when the monastery became a place of imprisonment for women nuns of aristocratic families. In the 16th ââ¬â 17th centuries, the monastery was one of the largest in Russia. The Holy Gate with the Annunciation Gate church of 1515 is unique in its function: the gate served at the same time as a powerful fortress tower and church. |
