Gubeikou was a strategic roads from Beijing to Mongolia, Manchuria and Korea. Ten thousand Tartars breached this pass in 1550 and plundered the countryside of Beijing. The Wall was modified by General Qi Jiguang after the invasion. It is in critical condition since it was damaged by a battle with the Japanese invaders in 1933.
