Fennel Foeniculum vulgare is a flowering plant species in the carrot family. It is a hardy, perennial herb with yellow flowers and feathery leaves. The fruit is a dry seed from 4–10 millimetres long, half as wide or less, and grooved. Fennel is widely cultivated, both in its native range and elsewhere, for its edible, strongly flavoured leaves and fruits. Seeds of the fennel plant are used in many of the culinary traditions of the world. It is chewed as a mouth freshener after food in India. It is used in combination with other spices for cooking.
