An interior image showing the construction of the fabulous Great Hall’s roof timbers. Three wooden arches support the roof using lateral wooden collars. Much of the roof is original and the timbers carry the same carpenters’ mark from 1291. Stokesay Castle is one of the finest fortified medieval manor houses in England. The castle was originally built in the late 1200s by Laurence of Ludlow.
