The sculpture was a gift from the Central Government of China to commemorate the transfer of sovereignty of Hong Kong from the United Kingdom to China in 1997.The Golden Bauhinia sculpture depicts a bauhinia flower,which is the emblem of Hong Kong. The bauhinia flower represents beauty,grace,and strength. The sculpture stands tall at about 6 meters (20 feet) and is made of bronze. It is situated on a tall pedestal,surrounded by a small plaza area.The Golden Bauhinia has become a popular tourist attraction and a gathering place for special events and celebrations.
