| Colorado U.S. Senator Gary Hart visits the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion Jerusalem campus in July, 1986. At this time, the thoughtful, liberal Democrat was the favorite to win his party`s nomination for president in 1988. His hopes subsequently went up in smoke with a sexual infidelity scandal, and he left politics shortly thereafter. He is accompanied on a balcony overlooking the holy city by his wife, Lee Ludwig Hart. She died on April 9, 2021 at a hospital in Lakewood, Colorado after a brief illness at the age of 85. The couple was married for over 60years. |
