La Maina is a geographical and cultural region of Greece, which occupies the central peninsula of the three which extend southwards. The peninsula is popularly called the middle finger. The peninsula is formed by the continuation of the Taygetos mountain range, the central spine of the Peloponnese. In the peninsula there are small and isolated villages, the most important of which is historically Areopoli, traditionally considered the capital of Maina. There are also many buildings tower-shaped, similar to those that compaino in the photo, which served as a defense during the many feuds between different families. In the image appears a delicate contrast between the buildings perched on top of the hill and the blue sea warfare.
