La Maina is a geographical and cultural region of Greece, which occupies the central peninsula of the three which extend southwards. The peninsula is popularly called the middle finger. The peninsula is formed by the continuation of the Taygetos mountain range, the central spine of the Peloponnese. In the peninsula there are small and isolated villages, the most important of which is historically Areopoli, traditionally considered the capital of Maina.
