| The Erasmusbrug, also called 'de Zwaan' ('the Swan') because of the elegant twist in the pylon, provides the link between the northern bank of the river Nieuwe Maas and the Kop van Zuid of the second-largest city in the Netherlands and one of the largest ports in the world, Rotterdam. The city centre is located on the northern bank of the Nieuwe Maas, although recent urban development has extended the center to parts of southern Rotterdam known as De Kop van Zuid. In the 1990s, the Kop van Zuid was built on the south bank of the river the Nieuwe Maas as a new business centre. |
