The new Israeli coalition government is presented to Present Chaim Herzog (front, center) at his official residence, Beit Hanassi in Jerusalem, Israel, on December 22, 1988. Others include Yitzhak Rabin, Chaim Bar-Lev, Ariel Sharon, Ezer Weizman, and Moshe Katsav. On right/front, is Minister of Education and Culture, Yitzhak Navon. Navon was an Israeli politician, diplomat, author, and an authority on Arab literature and culture. He was the fifth president of Israel (1978-1983) and the first Sephardi to hold that position. Navon was a liberal and member of the Alignment and Labor Parties. He was also a Member of the Knesset. Navon died at 94 on Nov. 7, 2015.
