| Rabbi David Hartman was a lively and forceful speaker, as he makes his point at a Jerusalem speech in 1986. Brooklyn-born, Hartman had orthodox training but later became a rabbi with very pluralistic views. He established the Shalom Hartman Institute in his adopted country, Israel, which actively promotes a democratic, tolerant, pluralistic vision of Israeli society. He died in Israel at the age of 81 in 2013. |
