Pictured are Cylindropuntia spinosier cacti ringed by rocks and surrounded by grass in the rear of Capanna Farm, situated in the Montosoli area to the north of Montalcino. Common names include cane cholla, spiny cholla and walkingstick cactus. Mature yellow fruit is seen on the cacti. The family owned farm started bottling their own wines in the 1960's and after Brunello di Montalcino was granted Controlled Designation of Origin (DOC) status in 1966, new vineyards were planted and production increased and markets expanded across the world. In addition to multiple wines, extra virgin olive oil and grappa di Burnello and Moscadelio are produced and can be shipped all over the world. They also offer guided tours and tastings.
