| Home to Hole-in-the-Rock, a popular hiking destination is an oasis in the desert. Seen under a cloudy sky this scenic location is at the confluence of Phoenix, Tempe, and Scottsdale Arizona. Holes and voids known as tafone formed in the arkosic conglomeratic sandstone of the Papago Buttes. The formations consist of mid-Cenozoic debris-flow breccia overlying pre-Cambrian granite. Palm trees, desert vegetation, and ponds are seem in the park. |
