District Zarya is a former military town of the Soviet air defense forces. Military and civilian personnel working on objects of air defense and in municipal infrastructure, live in Zarya. Church of the Venerable Saint Sabbas of Storozhi was built at the request of the Orthodox local residents and the veterans of air defence forces living in Zarya in order of the spiritual education of servicemen and members of their families. Saint Sabbas of Storozhi is an Orthodox monk and saint of 14-15th century. Sabbas was one of the first disciples of Sergius of Radonezh. He was the founder and first hegumen of the monastery of the Nativity of the Theotokos in Zvenigorod on Storozhi hill.
