| The Plaza Mayor with belltower in the Spanish city of Salamanca, a large plaza located in the center of Salamanca, used as a public square. It was built in the traditional Spanish baroque style and is a popular gathering area. In 1988, UNESCO declared the old city of Salamanca a World Heritage Site. The town hall, Ayuntamiento, in Salamanca, in the Spanish region of Castilla y Leon, is topped with a baroque boat-like structure housing the clock and three bells. On the very top of this structure are statues of four women, looking down on the square beneath. |
