| Bab El Mrissa (one of its entrance gates) has its place in the history of the Marinid holy war which began in the 13th century. In his Morocco Memorial, Mohamed Mnouni explains the functioning of this monumental gate: âWhen a vessel was built and we wanted to launch it into the sea, we opened the basin of the north gate. When the water filled it, the vessel was launched and it then sailed through the Mrissa Gate until it reached the river. This is why the arch of this door was located very high to allow ships to pass underneath. |
