Pictured is the Amelia Mary Earhart limestone sculpture by Peter 'Fritts' Felten on the second floor of the rotunda of the Kansas State Capitol building in Topeka. Amelia Mary Earhart was an aviation pioneer. She was born in 1897 and disappeared in 1937 over the Pacific Ocean while attempting to become the first female pilot to circumnavigate the world. The 2000 pound sculpture was installed in 1981. The sculpture is one of four monumental statues by Felten in the rotunda. His subjects are four famous Kansans, Dwight David Eisenhower, Amelia Earhart, William Allen White, and Arthur Capper.
