Renowned poet of the Beat Generation, Allen Ginsberg, appears at a reading and performance in Jerusalem, Israel, on January 22, 1988. Born Jewish and a practicing Buddhist, Ginsberg gained recognition for his epic poem, `Howl.` He was an open homosexual and was a creative non-conformist opposing militarism, imperialism, and the Vietnam War. He died from liver cancer at 70 in 1997.
