Perched majestically on a hill overlooking Lake Geneva in the Haute-Savoie region of France, the medieval castles of Allinges are a remarkable historical site. Uniquely, there are two distinct castles, Château Vieux (Old Castle) and Château Neuf (New Castle), standing only about 150 meters apart, whose ruins bear testament to centuries of rivalry and conflict between powerful regional families, particularly the Counts of Savoy and the Lords of Faucigny. While largely in ruins today due to dismantlement in the 18th century, the site offers an exceptional panoramic vista of Lake Geneva, the Jura mountains, and the Prealps. Visitors can explore the remnants of these once-formidable fortresses, including the 11th-century Romanesque chapel within Château Neuf, which houses a significant ancient fresco, and learn about their turbulent past as crucial strategic points guarding the region
