| The Achilleion Palace is located in Greece, on the east coast of the island of Corfu, in the Achilleion district, which also gave it its name. It is located on the outskirts of the village of Gastouri, at the bottom of Benitses Bay, about ten kilometers southwest of Corfu Town. Situated on top of a hill 145 meters above sea level, overlooking the Adriatic Sea, it offers a panoramic view of Pontikonissi Island and Corfu Town. Other sources believe that the palace is so named because of the Empress's admiration for Achilles. |
