This is one of my favorite images of Pedro a beloved and very spoiled family pet dog. Pedro is a rare Mexican Hairless breed of dogs called a Xolo or Xoloitzcuintli dog. I love the way he stood so still for his close up head portrait, knowing that I was there snapping away with my camera. Ancient Aztecs in Mexico considered Xolos to be sacred guides for souls in the afterlife. Pedro is a standard size, the largest in the breed. Xolo dogs are a very rare breed and Pedro is all black and a stunning example of this breed of dog. Being hairless they have to have their skin moisturized with coconut oil and need to wear a warm jacket in the colder months of weather.
