The regularization of the riverbeds is a category of hydrotechnical works that deal with course rectification, consolidation and reprofiling of minor riverbeds. River bed regularization works mean those works which, acting simultaneously on the route in plan, on the drainage sections and the longitudinal profile of the water course, lead to obtaining a stable bed with the most uniform flow and with the smallest possible variations of speed. The defense and regularization works of the riverbeds consist of all the engineering measures aimed at modifying or artificially strengthening the riverbed, in order to achieve stable riverbeds, to protect various objectives, to reduce erosion processes, to ensure certain drainage conditions or in order to efficient use of water for the needs of the economy. Their study forms a branch of river hydroengineering, which is closely related to hydrology and river hydraulics.
