Pictured is the sign at entrance to Fort Davis National Historic Site in Fort Davis, Texas. It is managed by the National Park Service, United States Department of the Interior. Fort Davis was established in 1854 on the San Antonioââ¬âEl Paso Road through west Texas and named after Jefferson Davis, who was then the Secretary of War under President Franklin Pierce. The historic site was established in 1961 to protect one of the best remaining examples of a United States Army fort in the southwestern United States.
