The Oculus is the new World Trade Center Transportation Hub that was designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava and constructed between 2008 and 2016. The structure’s white metal-clad steel ribs reach up and out in a monumental move symbolic of a hand releasing a dove. The Oculus is home to 12 subway lines, the World Trade Center PATH station, and dozens of retailers, serving over a million people every week. In view is the entrance to the PATH station that from where trains to New Jersey leave. It looks like the body cavity of a whale.
