Hindu devotees and visitors at Malaysia's Thaipusam celebration. This annual celebration was held at the Batu Caves Temple, Selangor, Malaysia on 8th February 2009. The celebration commemorates both the birthday of Lord Murugan (also Subramaniam), the youngest son of Shiva and Parvati, and the occasion when Parvati gave Murugan a vel (spear) so he could vanquish the evil demon Soorapadman. |
